iPad Mini Stock Checker

No Comments Apple, Tech

With Apple ever dominating the market for tablets and the recent launch of the iPad mini demand for these devices has never been higher. With high demand comes difficulty in the supply, a clever marketing tactic by Apple if I don’t say so myself as with controlling said supply demand becomes even greater.

We’ve all heard stories of stock selling in less than 4 minutes and with the power of online buying it’s become even more powerful. So how do you find out where there is stock of iPads and more importantly the iPad Minis? Well a new site call iPad Mini Stock does exactly just that, it trawls the web automatically looking for the latest stock of iPad minis from major retailers such as John Lewis, Argos, Tesco, Currys and of course PC World.

The site is cleanly presented and easy to use and simply breaks down the list of available iPad mini options by retailer and availability, brilliant, what more do you need to know? Well other than the I know the guys behind this site personally and following them on Twitter we know the site works and is providing a really useful and easy stock checker tool. Check it out!!!

My top 5 predictions for digital marketing in 2013

No Comments Adobe, Marketing, Tech

The world is a fast changing place with new technology pushing forward paving the future of the way we operate within our daily lives, communicate with others and engage with brands. In the past year we’ve already seen a shift in consumer behaviour, particularly online, search patterns and accessibility to knowledge and communications. This is somewhat largely due to amount of algorithm changes Google has made this year but also due to the technology that is now accessible.

4G recently launched in the UK, broadband speeds are getting faster, Google glasses got it’s debut, Steve Jobs clocked out and left the company in new hands which has led to the launch of the iPhone 5, iPad mini, new iMac etc, Obama has got a second term, Toyota has gone back it’s roots with the GT86 and not to mention the recent events of Hurricane Sandy taking out New York thus highlighting serious flaws in the technology that keeps it running daily.

With all this change even only in the last 6 months i’ve decided to write a blog on my predictions for the future of digital marketing and then this time next year i’ll re-visit this blog and see if I was right or wrong.

I was recently inspired by a Google employee at a local digital marketing conference who talked about the future of Google, it’s plans and objectives and some of my predictions are drawn from his comments. It’ll be interesting how this pans out none the less. Read more

Android is for arseholes

No Comments Apple, Blog, Tech

I don’t know what it is about society today and technology but everyone seems to think they have outsmarted Steve Jobs and Bill Gates multiplied together. That all of a sudden they are technological guru’s with a higher opinion than God about which device is better than the other and what makes a certain software better. What really makes me laugh is it’s just one opinion against another, and therein in is part of the problem. The internet is a wonderful thing but in the same breathe it’s given muppets a voice and has consequently turned them into keyboard warriors, and I don’t get on well with muppets behind keyboards (But that’s my opinion).

Now I want to set the scene a little here, i’m an end user, I use technology to facilitate my work and my hobbies. I invest in technology that is right for my needs and requirements, not because of some fad or craze. I also like to compare technology against it’s rivals and then draw a list of pro’s and con’s as to which best suits my lifestyle and through a series of pre-determined criteria I then come to price as the final governing factor, can I even afford this tech? Will it really bring fulfilment to my requirements? Read more

iPad Mini: Apple unveils the iPad’s baby cousin

No Comments Apple, Blog, Mobile, Reviews, Tech

Apple unveiled a new, smaller iPad this evening in Silicon Valley, but disappointed many observers by pricing it at as much as £110 above rival tablet computers from Google and Amazon.

Apple have priced the iPad mini at £269 for the 16gb up to £529 for 64gb, only £130 less than the larger iPad with same capacity. Essentially it’s the same as the iPad but features a 7.9 inch screen (diagonally) which goes against the grain of the late Steve Jobs views for usability.

The iPad is a power house to be able to manage every day processing tasks, for me personally I recently rendered and produced a full 15 minute snowboarding video on the iPad alone and far quicker than my fairly high spec PC, pure testament to the iPad’s power and flexibility.

I’m not one for buying the entry level Apple products just because it’s Apple, I buy what I need to manage the applications I use most and complete the tasks I regularly need to do. That’s why I have a 32gb iPhone 4 and 64gb iPad 2. Function over form i’m afraid, and this is where i’m unsure where the iPad mini fits in. Read more

Xbox.com and 360 Dashboard is getting a major design overhaul

No Comments Blog, Gaming, Tech, Websites

Finally, it looks like the Xbox 360 dashboard isn’t the only thing getting an overhaul this fall — Microsoft’s Major Nelson has just announced that Xbox.com will be getting a “massive facelift” tomorrow. The changes are more than just visual, however, and include a few new features that more tightly integrate the site with the Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7.

That includes a new browser-based avatar editor and, most interestingly, some web games that you’ll be able to play with your Xbox Live friends on the web or on Windows Phone 7 (Probably the only thing that will persuade me to chuck in my iPhone for a Windows 7 phone) — no word if they’ll earn you achievements or not. Otherwise, you can expect a streamlined view of messages, friend and game requests, some new family reports that will let you see how your family is using Xbox Live, and some improved browsing and searching options for the Marketplace. Cool!!!

Xbox avatar editor
It’s still not clear exactly when it’ll go live, but the site will be down for a short period starting at 5:00AM ET tomorrow to prepare for the changes!!!

In the meantime checkout the new update for the Xbox dashboard:

AR Defender Mobile Augmented Reality – A new era of digital marketing?

1 Comment Blog, Mobile, Tech

Augmented Reality isn’t necessarily new but putting into a usable app on the iPhone is pushing the boundaries of creativity. Could this really be a new era of digital marketing?

AD Defender for iPhone

AR Defender is a mobile augmented reality game created by int13. I recently downloaded the AR Defender app for £0.59 (bargain) after a colleague gave me a demonstration and made my office desk come to life. At first I was blown away by how the app immediately added a whole dimension to virtual gaming on my iPhone. I have been playing it all weekend and I have to say I am addicted.

Heres what the creators have to say: “ARDefender is an Augmented Reality Game, involving a tower, various weapons and nasty opponents bugging you on your desk.

Move your phone to target the enemies, it’s magical! The game uses your camera phone and a piece a paper that you printed. Discover this revolutionary gameplay on several Smartphones.”

Simply print of this file: http://www.ardefender.com/ardefender.pdf and cut out the symbols, there are three sizes available. I just printed off the smaller one and now keep it in my wallet for when I want a quick game or to impress friends at the bar.

To play the game, load the app, point your iPhone camera at the piece of paper and watch as it comes to life. Watch the video below to get a better idea of how the app works.

Available on App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/app/ardefender

Currently AR Defender is only available on the iPhone and Samsung Bada, but it will be available on other devices shortly.

Commercialising Augmented Reality

Further from the concept of the game it got me thinking about how this can be implemented in a commercial sense. I mean what if you didn’t have to print something off but it was already provided on a billboard or bus stop poster such as in Waterloo station?

Calvin Klein QR Code Advertising

A user would simply download the app, point their camera and watch as whatever media you want to use comes to life. It can be as interactive as you like, it will be highly engaging and most of all it will likely become viral.

We’ve already seen some brands such as Calvin Klein try out QR code advertising in magazines and billboards by AR is just that little bit more ‘involved’ from a users point of view and I think it could potentially become highly powerful.

It makes for an interesting case to consider the future marketing potential of augmented reality and how it can shape the way brands communicate with customers. It reminds me of films like Minority Report where users can control virtual space…where is this technology going? It’s an almost unfathomable thought…But at the very same time really exciting!

What do you think about AR technology? Could it really be the future of digital marketing? Share your thoughts below!

8 Million Dollar Diamond iPhone 4

1 Comment Blog, Mobile, Tech

iPhone 4 Diamond Rose

With so many iPhones out there its tough to be unique and individual, I mean we’re still awaiting the iPhone 4 white edition which has been in speculation about various release dates. On that note, various sources believe it could be out just before Xmas though there is no hard truth in this. Either way a lot of people believe it should be due before iPhone 5 is revealed early 2011.

Back on topic…being unique…well finally there is an option if you have a bit of spare cash to get your hand on this rather sexy iPhone. I say a bit of spare cash but for this baby, the iPhone 4 Diamond Rose, you’ll actually need a cool $8 million (around £5 million), according to an article by Stan Schroeder over on Mashable.

Designed by Stuart Hughes this spectacular iPhone 4 is designed with around 500 flawless diamonds totalling over 100 ct. Also the navigation button is made from platinum with an individual 7.4 ct pink diamond. Apparently only 2 of this latest version of the iPhone 4 will ever be made although I’m surprised it’s as many as two.

Diamond iPhone 4

A look at the Stuart Hughes website featuring this phone actually shows a purchase button. Cool, though that seems pretty hopeful to me but what a thought that you could press a button online and spend $8 million just like that on a mobile phone.

If you’re thinking about buying this phone, or indeed have bought it…we’d love to hear your thoughts and reviews.

NEW iPhone SMS Ringtones with iOS4.2 Beta 3

1 Comment Blog, Mobile, Tech

While looking for new features and hidden secrets within iOS 4.2 Beta 3, it would appear there is a hidden gem: New SMS ringtones! Have a listen.

Unfortunately despite all the lovely new SMS ringtones (Which to be fair aren’t that great) Apple still doesn’t appear to be offering the option of using custom or downloaded ringtones for SMS alerts. Sort it out Steve Jobs!!!

What do you think about the new SMS ringtones?
