Golf’s governing body the R&A has enhanced its latest iPhone app to include live video streaming of this year’s British Open tournament.

The R&A also plans to launch its first iPad app, called The Rules of Golf, which will be free to download and sponsored by Rolex, after witnessing strong demand for its iPhone app for last year’s British Open.

Adam Lynch, R&A head of digital media, said, “We’ve agreed streaming rights for certain parts of the course with the BBC [which will broadcast the tournament on TV].”

The British Open 2010 app was created with creative agency Lightmaker and mobile app developer Future Workshops and will also include video-on-demand features.
